Dear fellow eBayers,
My birthday at La Quinta Resort was amazing. The property is a dream come true. Old Hollywood meets modern convenience. If you are on the fence about my Live eBay Boot Camp, please read the Lynn Recommends section and make the decision now to change your life.
Houston, Indiana and I were hanging out at the big pool at La Quinta Resort; floating around having a great time. It was almost time to check out and Indy said to me, “There is Kenny Ortega, the director of High School Musical.” I said, “Right.” What would he be doing here? Anyway, my daughter is obviously smarter than I and she had nailed it.
I walked up to him and said, “I am so sorry to bother you on vacation, but my 8-year-old daughter thinks that you are Kenny Ortega.” “I am,” he said. He was so gracious to my children. He posed for photos, signed autographs and even took our address to send a gift to my kids. What a true Hollywood star!

Amazing things happen when you are in the right place at the right time. La Quinta resort in September is that place and time. I think that there are only 6 seats left. Please don’t miss out!
I got about 200 things ready to list this week–photographed and written up–because I am on a road trip with Peter (as I write this) and next week we go to the Little League World Series in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I will get you updates from Colorado next week!
By the way, I never personally thanked you all for helping with the boys baseball team’s charity auctions. We raised over $4,000! Thanks to you all!!!
On Tuesday of this week we celebrated Houston’s 11th birthday at Knott’s Soak City water park. We hosted the entire baseball team and it was a blast. I’ll tell you, eleven is a great age and we all had a lot of fun. My brother even came out to attend and he set up my new computer. I just got a Dell Latitude and I love it!!!
But, back to the road trip. Peter bought a convertible Mustang and he flew into Los Angeles to pick it up. I offered to (well, agreed to) drive back to Albuquerque with him. Sounded like fun at the time. Just kidding. It has been a great adventure and we got to celebrate my birthday (again!)
Anyway, as I was photographing the 200 items in the 120 degree heat, I saw that my high school intern had written up about 20 old bottles for me to list. Bottles have always intrigued me, so that is what I wrote this week’s feature article about. There are some great tips–so please check it out.
Late yesterday, we announced my Inner Circle, The Queen’s Court. I can’t possibly explain how wonderful it is going to be in this newsletter, so please read how to learn more in the Special Announcement Section.

‘Bottle Your Knowledge Up’‘
by Lynn A. Dralle, ‘The Queen of Auctions’
When I started photographing all the bottles this week, I couldn’t stop thinking about the things that most people don’t even stop to think about when discussing bottles. It is a vast topic and I will just scratch the surface this week. I want to get you thinking about bottles and looking in a new way at bottles that you may run across.
There are so many different categories that I couldn’t wait to start writing about them. Please check out some of my silly little bottles that are up for sale this week.
Click here to see my bottle listings.
Many old bottles have been buried for years then dug from the ground. You will see I’ve indicated that in my auction listings by putting DUG in the auction title. Most of the bottles I recently purchased were dug from the ground in the Coachella Valley.
In the bottle category, I want you to think about these categories that I have given a brief description and my impression:
Avon: Stay away–most are not worth any money–that is my two cents.
Jim Beam: Not as common or as boring as you may imagine: Please read Story #48 from my new 100 Best book–Ka-Ching!
Click here to read the story…
Barber Bottles: Look at this photo from last week’s ezine and see the photo of me celebrating my sixth birthday. In the window behind me on the top shelf is my grandmother’s collection of barber bottles. These sell for big bucks!!!
A barber bottle was originally used by the barber either in his shop or in his/her customer’s home. It contained items used in the barber’s work: hair oil, bay rum, tonic, shampoo, witch hazel, rosewater or other items. The distinctive bottle shape told the barber or customer what each one was used for. This was before bottles said Shampoo or Conditioner on the outside!
Beer Bottles: Beer supposedly started in the Americas in 1587. Whatever the story, if you have the right beer bottle–you can make plenty of dough–doesn’t it take some yeast to make beer?
Candy Containers: Figural Candy Containers were all the rage in the early 1900s. My grandmother collected them and this is a very special category for me. Candy containers were originally made to hold candy and then to be used afterwards as toys for children. Click here to see one of my grandmother’s candy containers that is up for sale in my ebay store.
Coke/Pepsi Bottles: Don’t miss out on any of these early bottles. I think that Coke probably sells for more than Pepsi–Well, I am a Diet Coke drinker. However, any rare bottle will do incredibly well. Please do some research on eBay. Know your Soda!
Flasks: These were first made in the 18th century (1700s) and many variations were produced to hold liquor for the individual. FYI: Bright colors bring the highest prices. Watch out for reproductions!
Fruit Jars: Fruit jars have been used in the US since the 1850s. WOW! I have never done any canning (as you all probably know) but my dad is a great fruit picker and jelly maker. But I digress; back to the task at hand–helping you make money selling jars, bottles and any type of container!!! Even Tupperware. Not time in this ezine, but don’t overlook vintage Tupperware–just a hint! So back to fruit jars, look for unusual colors (anything other than turquoise blue) and unusual marks. You may want to buy a book for this. Look on Amazon for 1000 Fruit Jars or Red Book 9.
Ink Bottles: These were made to not tip over. The shape of an ink bottle indicates the age. This is a category worth studying.
Here is another ink bottle I’ve listed this week.
Medicine Bottles: Popular in the 19th century. These are fun for collectors because of the crazy names. Think “Dr. Henley’s Celery”, “Davis Vegetable Pain Killer”, and “Haven’s Diarrhea & Colera Syrup”.
Miniatures: Liquor companies figured out that tiny bottles in figural shapes would sell well. Now there are a ton of collectors for these amazing items. Vintage sells the best.
Pickle Bottles: Pickles were packed in special jars from 1880 to 1920. It was a large bottle and they had 4 to 8 sides. The mouth had to be wide to accommodate taking out the pickle. Some of these can sell in the $10,000 range. Do your research.
Poison: Most had raised designs so that it was obvious that they were dangerous. Some were even made in the shape of coffins. This is an amazingly collectible and lucrative category.
Sarsparilla: The most widely distributed syphilis cure in the 19th century was sarsaparilla. Who knew? It was also claimed to cure many other diseases. A great early collectible bottle.
Vinegar: Most vinegar manufacturers used a large glass jug shaped bottle with a small handle. So, if you have a large bottle with a tiny handle, you can call it a vinegar bottle in your listing! Most collectors want vinegar in raised letter or a paper label. Watch for this.
Go Withs: This category is for anything that could be used with a bottle. Think coasters, shot glasses, wine openers and the like. These can also mean big bucks. Remember story #16 from Money Making Madness?
I hope this overview will help you think outside the box and look for items you might have typically overlooked.
Happy eBaying,
Lynn
